What is “Goatscaping”?
The Dottie’s Goat Farm crew actively goatscaping!
“Goatscaping” is the term used when goats are in charge of the landscaping management. In other words, they eat the vegetation to help maintain fields controlled, neat, and safe from wildfires by clearing dry and unwanted brush.
Although goatscaping is a natural and old clearing method, it has been largely replaced by machinery and chemicals in the modern times.
Fortunately, goatscaping is making a comeback! Why? Because of its economical, efficient, and eco-friendly benefits.
The benefits of goatscaping
-
Goatscaping can save you money. Some people prefer to hire goats instead of purchasing them, and both options can be inexpensive compared to the other conventional clearing methods. Hiring crews of people-regularly; purchasing lawnmowers, weedwhackers, tractors; repairing or maintaining the machinery; and/or spending time doing it yourself also has a price, because time is money.

Goats are prolific brush eaters. They can cover a lot of land in a short amount of time, reach places a weed wacker, lawnmower or tractor can’t and do so in a safe manner as well. Goats can eat weeds, dry grasses, vines, bushes, prickly or invasive plants and more. Plus, they are reliable. They work diligently and independently from dawn to dusk.

When you employ goats, there is no need to use chemicals on the fields nor pollute the air and ground with machines in order to keep the grass short. On the contrary, goats help fertilize the land naturally as they graze, and they have a light footprint.
As you can see from the photos above, the work that goats do is impressive. So, if you are a landowner, business owner, or local agency looking for economical ways to keep the vegetation in or around your property under control and neat, while reducing the risk of grass fires; well, why not give the goatscaping method a chance?
